Welcome to Tranny Hotel...
“Tranny Hotel” is a performance project which owes existence to the Linz-based arts collective Die Fabrikanten who made the original call-out in 2009 for proposals for their Europe-wide Festival “Exchange Radical Moments” and who commissioned the idea proposed by Liverpool-based artist Mandy Romero for inclusion in that Festival.
At the heart of “Tranny Hotel” is the impulse to create a space for transgender art within contemporary society, a space which is safe, nurturing and appreciative, where the art can be encountered by a diverse audience and a new understanding can be developed of the creative role of transgender in addressing the conflictions of the present.
A Hotel was always to be the location for the initial project and the art would always be predominantly performing arts, but with the significant inflection of Live Art. Future events plan to explore a wide range of venues and spaces and to encompass a diverse range of artforms to include visual arts, photography, literature, crafts and music.
The producers of Tranny Hotel, Mandy Romero and Adrian Turrell-Watts, aim to widen and expand the public's experience of transgender through art and creativity. This website will provide information on future events as well as documenting our past projects with useful information about the artists involved.
